Crickhowell Choral Society is tuning up for an open air concert as part of preparations to welcome the National Eisteddfod.

The event will be "coming home" this summer when it arrives at the Castle in Abergavenny.

Conductor Stephen Marshall said: "There will be things going on at the castle in the build-up for the National Eisteddfod arriving. We are hosting an open air concert at the venue on July 9 as part of this build-up."

The choral society will be performing a blend of Welsh folk song arrangements.

The concert is a joint venture between the museum at the castle in Abergavenny and the choral society.

The museum will be displaying traditional Welsh costume by Lady Llanover.

Students from Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni will be performing traditional Welsh dancing in costume.

The children and the choir will be accompanied by music from Welsh harpist Katherine Thomas, who will also being playing the harp at the Eisteddfod.

Katherine will also be playing some solo pieces at the concert.

Stephen said: "Many people don’t realise that Lady Llanover was a leading light in the revival of Welsh traditions and the National Eisteddfod. When it comes back to Abergavenny it will be like the Eisteddfod is coming home."

People are asked to bring their own picnic and something to sit on because use it’s open air and chairs won’t be provided.

The concert starts at 7:00pm, tickets cost £10 and are available from museum or the music shop in Abergavenny.

The National Eisteddfod will be taking place at the same venue in the first week of August.
