Pentabus Theatre Company is putting on a dazzling performance at the Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon on Friday, 28 April.

Their inspiring and joyful new play, One of Them Ones, was written by Charlie Josephine writer of the critically acclaimed I, Joan.

When Pentabus approached Charlie Josephine to write a new play, Charlie knew what they wanted to write. Charlie said: “I kind of knew instantly that I wanted to write something that had a trans character in it because of the quite violent transphobic noise in the press at the moment in this country.

“I wanted to use this as an opportunity to introduce a rural audience to a real human and to give a nuanced piece of theatre that is entertaining and interesting and perhaps introduces them to someone they might not meet in their real life."

Characters in the play were inspired by children that Charlie went and met in a research and development  period, they said: “I came to Ludlow and the surrounding area and met loads of young people which was really cool and inspiring and definitely influenced the play and the characters.

“The play follows two siblings, Frankie and Michael who are just trying to get their heads around it all basically and they have some big conversations about gender, identity and mental health.”

“I’m so excited and really happy with what Pentabus has made, the creative team are brilliant.

“It’s really joyful, theatrical and fun, and audiences are responding positively to it. We’ve been having some really good conversations in the bar after the shows as well.”
