Dyfed-Powys Police and Llandrindod Wells Fire Station have relayed a message calling for safety as members of the public have ignored road closure signs and even moved them to access the closed area along the A470.
The A470 is currently closed between Doldowlod and Rhayader due to Gwastedyn Hill being on fire near Rhayader.
Last night a large tree fell in the area where the road has closed, prompting the emergency services to call for the public to respect the road closed signs and the danger of the area.
A spokesperson for the police said: “Rhayader Police have been made aware this evening that members of public are ignoring the road closed signs and even moving them to access the A470 between Doldowlod and Rhayader.
“Please adhere to the road closures as Fire and Rescue need access as the fire is now at the roadside of the A470. Follow the diversion signs and find an alternative route.”
A spokesperson for Llandrindod Wells Fire Station added: “This is a further reminder that the A470 between the south of Rhayader and Llanwrthwl towards Newbridge-on-Wye remains closed.
“Do not pass the road closed signs and bollards. This closure is in place for your own safety and to allow emergency services and local authority highways teams to safely deal with the ongoing incident.
“Last night, a very large tree came down within the road closure area, highlighting the continued dangers in the area.Please do not attempt to pass the road closure or enter the affected area.
“The road will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.”
Fire crews remain tackling the hill fire that is believed to have began on Wednesday (12 August).
