A 25-year-old man found dead at a campsite near the Royal Welsh Showground had a provisional cause of death consistent with a suspected drug overdose, an inquest opening has heard.

Dewi Aeron Evans, from Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr near Corwen, was found at Penmaenau Farm, Llanelwedd, on July 18.

Police were called to a report of a medical emergency at around 10:30pm on the Saturday before the Royal Welsh Show. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following a police investigation and have since been released on bail.

A post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death as “consistent with drug overdose, pending toxicology”.

The inquest was adjourned at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court while police enquiries and further medical tests continue.

Mr Evans’ family described him as a “beloved and dear son, brother and grandson”.
