A West End actor is returning to his roots in New Radnor this weekend for a limited run of Harold Pinter’s tense two-hander The Dumb Waiter.
The Old School Community Hub will host the production on Sunday and Monday (May 24 and 25) at 8pm, bringing a slice of professional theatre to the community.
The play, one of Pinter’s best-known works, follows two hitmen waiting in a bare, windowless room for instructions on their next job. As the wait drags on, small arguments and strange interruptions from a food lift known as a “dumb waiter” begin to unsettle the pair, building a mix of dark humour and unease.
Taking the role of Ben is Victor Ptak. A local New Radnor resident, Ptak returns to the stage following a meteoric rise in cinema and theatre. Due to feature at Cannes Film Festival 2026, where he stars alongside Adam Driver and Miles Teller in James Gray’s highly anticipated film, Paper Tiger. Stage audiences may also recognise him from his acclaimed lead role in the West End production of Heisenberg.
He is joined on stage by Symon Hamer, who will play Gus. A veteran of both radio and stage, who grew up in Wales in the 1970s, Hamer brings a deep, intuitive physicality to the role of Gus.
The two actors trained at the same drama school, both working through the Stanislavski and Strasberg methods.
For Ptak, the production also marks something of a technical step forward, as he brings the Demidov Technique - a more instinctive approach to Stanislavski - into Pinter’s tight, claustrophobic world.
"Bringing a play of this intensity to New Radnor is a passion project," said the production team. "The energy in that room is going to be palpable."
