18 year-old from Brecon, Kiban Rai scored a late, 96th minute equaliser this evening in the EFL Cup against Premier League side Brentford, which happened to be his first senior goal for Newport.

The game finished 1-1 thanks to Kiban's goal, with Brentford winning 3-0 on Penalties and progressing to round three of the competition.

Brentford took the lead in the 87th minute through midfielder, Mathias Jensen.

But nine minutes later, the 18 year-old Kiban, who was subbed on in the 67th minute, got on the end of an Adam Lewis cross and headed the ball into the back of the net, scoring his first goal as a professional footballer.

Rai slid on his knees towards the corner flag in celebration, sending the game to penalties.

Despite losing on penalties, it will no doubt be a memorable night for Kiban scoring his first professional goal against Premier League opposition.

Kiban joined Newport's academy in 2021 after being scouted by them whilst playing for Brecon Corries.

In late June, Rai became the first footballer of Nepalese heritage to sign a professional contract in the English Football League. Read more here:
