At the beginning of March, Cradoc Golf Club welcomed its two new captains.
David “Maxi” Morgan was inducted as Men’s Captain, while Jan Watkins became Ladies’ Captain. Their appointments mark an exciting chapter for the club.
In recent years, the club faced some challenges, but these are now behind it. Membership has grown, the restaurant and bar are thriving, and the course is in excellent condition and busy with players.
“This is a very exciting year for the golf club,” said Maxi. “We have so many events - both golf and social - planned for the year and there will be something suitable for everyone.”
The men’s section remains strong, with opportunities for internal competitions and matches against other clubs. The ladies’ section has welcomed new and younger members, and several juniors are now taking part in club golf.
At the annual AGM, Maxi thanked members for trusting him with the captaincy. “It is a great honour, and I will work hard to ensure the coming year is successful,” he said. Maxi is a popular choice, known across all sections of the club.
Two days later, Jan Watkins accepted her nomination as Ladies’ Captain. “This is a great honour for me,” she said. “I am not as experienced as most past Ladies Captains but I will work hard and hopefully we will have a successful and fun year.”
Alongside organising golf and social events, the captains will also raise funds for their chosen charities: Parkinson’s and Dementia Wales, both of which are close to their hearts.
Already this month, the captains have hosted two successful social events and a golf competition for men, ladies, seniors, and juniors, followed by a clubhouse meal. The day ended with members cheering Wales’ triumphant rugby victory over Italy - a fitting start to a promising year ahead.
