The Chair of a Powys running club to set to run the width of Wales to raise money for two children’s charities.

Julie Cashell, who is the Chair and a founding member of Crickhowell Running Club, will start her 50-mile journey on June 26 on the English border.

The two charities that Julie is running for are Noah’s Ark Charity, which raises money for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, and Latch, the Welsh children’s cancer charity.

Julie’s route begins in Anchor, a hamlet in Shropshire and will take her across the heart of Wales before finishing in the seaside town of Borth.

Julie’s mission was born from her generosity in wanting to help others.

Crickhowell youngsters Scott Foulkes and Cassie Evans are currently receiving treatment for cancer and have received excellent support, help and advice from the charity Latch. Cassie is also receiving treatment at the Noah’s Ark Hospital.

Also receiving treatment at Noah’s Ark is Julie’s friend Abi Phillips, who is also a Crickhowell Running Club member together with her Mam, Dad and sister Libby.

To show support for Scott, Cassie and Abi, Julie will raise funds for these charities, both of which have taken a huge knock over the twelve months due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Julie’s inspiration for the challenge is her friend - writer and TV presenter Lynne Allbutt - who crossed the width of Wales over two days in 2014. Lynne completed the run barefoot and got herself into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Julie said “I have always had huge admiration for Lynne and when I was the Care Home Manager at Oaklands was privileged to manage the care of her mum. They both hold a special place in my heart.

“So on June 26 I will start the 50-mile journey with Andrew, on his bike. When our mission is completed, it will be a proud, proud day.

The initial of target of £5000 has been exceeded but Julie and the team are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the two causes.

“We hope that we can show these amazing youngsters, Scott, Cassie and Abi that they are not on their own, we are all with them.”

Julie will be joined by Lynne, as well as special friends, members and supporters of Crickhowell Running Club for the final few miles of the journey, so they can finish the challenge together.

Julie added: “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading our story and any donations to the charity would be so much appreciated, so these wonderful charities can continue their vital work and help youngsters like these that will need them.”
